County expecting to start Causeway Islands project in July By CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - | Apr 20, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED Jesse Lavender shared a proposed plan for Causeway Island A, closest to the mainland. Erosion and safety are driving Lee County’s three-year project to improve the Causeway Islands, Lee County Parks & Recreation Director Jesse Lavender told members of the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce at the April 14 virtual business meeting. “This is your corridor from the mainland, and we’re going to do it right,” he said. “These two islands will get re-created in a fashion that gets us set for the future and addresses safety issues on-and-off access points and erosion. We want to make a really nice corridor for people who live on the islands and for visitors to keep that nice ‘I’m on the islands, this is why I’m here’ feeling.” ....
And here’s a consumer alert for all you new pandemic parents: “ When parents first serve solid foods to their babies, they often turn to infant rice cereal. The iron-fortified mix is nutritious and relatively easy to feed babies unaccustomed to spoons or strong flavors. The summer camp is just one of the various Lee County Parks & Recreation Summer Camps currently offering early sign-ups. According to Recreation Center Supervisor Rebecca Flora, parents are encouraged to sign up early due to this year’s allotted spaces. “We suggest that parents go ahead and get signed up for the weeks ahead of time, because camps do fill up. This year we have 60 slots for participants in our kindergarten through fifth summer camp and 18 kids maximum for the middle school camp, grades sixth to 8th. Each summer camp is a five-week program this year. We’ll have the current ratios due to COVID,” Flora said. “Activities will be done with social distancing in mind. There will be no field trips for this coming summer. Everything will s ....
Lee County camp registrations starts Monday, promises a different experience Published: February 19, 2021 5:27 AM EST Updated: February 19, 2021 4:02 PM EST Recommended It’s time for parents to start making plans for their children’s summer. On Monday, Lee County camp registration opens up. Summer might not feel like it’s right around the corner, but it’ll be here before you know it. People who run the camps say they learned a lot with COVID-19 last year, and this year they’re more prepared to keep your kids safe. “One counselor per nine kids, and keeping the groups pretty well separated,” said Alise Flanjack with Lee County Parks and Recreation. “In smaller groups that will go rotate inside different rooms, they’ll rotate outside different games, trying to keep the kids really contained, and all their supplies are contained.” ....
