Bruce Ware and his wife, Janie, are visiting Bemidji this week at the end of a month-long motorhome trip that started in New Orleans and made its way up the Great River Road, along the Mississippi River to its source at Itasca State Park. Fourteen rolling homes pulled into Royal Oaks RV Park on Bemidji’s south side on Wednesday.
County expecting to start Causeway Islands project in July

Erosion and safety are driving Lee County’s three-year project to improve the Causeway Islands, Lee County Parks & Recreation Director Jesse Lavender told members of the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce at the April 14 virtual business meeting.
“This is your corridor from the mainland, and we’re going to do it right,” he said. “These two islands will get re-created in a fashion that gets us set for the future and addresses safety issues on-and-off access points and erosion. We want to make a really nice corridor for people who live on the islands and for visitors to keep that nice ‘I’m on the islands, this is why I’m here’ feeling.”

The bagpipes played and the sun peaked over the dunes of the beach where we were sitting Easter Sunrise Service this past Sunday. My wife looked at me as I let tears start to flow. The preacher said we were to remember those we had lost during this time while the bagpipes played Amazing Grace. I swear I saw a lone gull flap it’s wings in the brightening sky. My thoughts? It was my brother.
I breathed a deep sigh, wiped tears away and then remembered… We grew up as four children in a family that was so young itself.
