LAKELAND, FL (May 19, 2022) | The Lake Crago Outdoor Recreation Complex was recently designated as an Outstanding Partner by the Florida Youth Conservation Center Network (FYCCN).  FYCCN is a program administered by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission designed to get younger Floridians involved in outdoor activities.  The FYCCN program is dedicated to getting kids and families outside and helping them understand the importance of the state’s amazing natural resources. FYCCN educates and empowers Florida’s youth with outdoor know-how and the latest conservation concepts. ....

Governor Ron DeSantis met with Southwest Florida business leaders and Captains for Clean Water in Fort Myers, Wednesday, to discuss the growing threat from a toxic blue-green algae outbreak in Lake Okeechobee and red tide that continues to plague the region s Gulf coast. The

On May 27, 2016 this white-tailed deer mother and fawn were photographed at one of our game camera sites in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. We received a quarterly update from researchers involved in the South Florida Deer Research Project, and from April to June the team collared three deer (1 male and 2 females) at the refuge using rocket-nets and darting.

April 13, 2021 A. The entrance to a cypress tree den estimated to be about 40-50 feet above the ground. A female Florida black bear climbed this hollow tree and entered through the open top to den. She later gave birth inside the cavity that was near the ground level.
B. Two FWRI bear research biologists stand at the base of the tree den listening to the sounds of a female Florida black bear and at least one cub.
