Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday met Tabassum Khatoon, the widow of Angara lynching victim Mubarak Khan, and her two minor sons at his assembly office on Tuesday and assured to book the culprits soon and promised to look into their demands for compensation and a government job. Tabassum and her sons were brought to the assembly by Congress MLA from Jamtara, Irfan Ansari. While meeting the chief minister, Tabassum and her children were accompanied by Ansari, her relative Shenaz Khatoon, Congress MLA from Jharia Jharia MLA Purnima Singh and Khijri MLA Rajesh Kacchap. Before meeting the CM and ahead of the start of the Budget session, Ansari told reporters that he has demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family and a government job for Tabassum. ....
Ranchi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday announced that the auction of sand ghats in the state for mining will be a complete online affair from next month. Soren made the announcement after he rose to speak in the Assembly to respond to the opposition’s claims that the incumbent government was protecting sand mafias across the state. Attacking the BJP lawmakers sitting in the opposition benches, Soren claimed illegal mining, which was causing the state’s treasuries to bleed, was overlooked by the previous government led by the BJP. “The BJP is only concerned about grabbing power,” he added. ....
Hazaribag: Following several deaths due to kerosene blasts in Hazaribag, the district administration on Tuesday set up a testing laboratory at the collectorate building for speedy examination of kerosene samples. Since February, at least six persons have died in kerosene blasts in different villages under sadar block and over a dozen have received serious injuries. In the latest such incident, a 40-year-old woman died on Sunday night. Hazaribag SDO (Sadar) Vidya Bhushan Kumar said that earlier they were sending the samples to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) lab in Khunti but the process was time-consuming. Hence, the IOCL was requested to provide a mobile van for testing in the district. ....
Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Ranchi: The state government on Monday formalized its plan to reserve 75% of jobs in the private sector for locals with chief minister Hemant Soren making an official announcement in this regard in the assembly. Setting a unique precedent, Soren addressed the lawmakers in the first half of the session and announced a few major policy decisions taken during the cabinet meeting on March 12. In a short speech, Soren said, “Since the house was in session, it would have been improper to make a public announcement of policy decisions outside the house. All such policy decisions were not included in Friday’s cabinet briefing. Abiding by the standards of parliamentary democracy, I decided to first inform the honorable members.” ....
Image used for representational purpose only Koderma: As many as 11 migratory birds were found dead in Jamukhari under Chandwara police station limits in Koderma, officials said on Monday. “We found a bottle of poison beside the carcasses and we suspect that the birds were poisoned to death by some unidentified poachers,” divisional forest officer Suraj Kumar Singh said. He added, “The dead birds were identified as Eurasian coot, a member of the Rallidae bird family. The carcasses have been sent for a post mortem.” This is the second incident of bird poaching in Jamukhari in the recent past. Earlier, the forest department found carcasses of 40 birds there. “We have set up an anti-poaching team and our crackdown on poachers will be strengthened further,” Singh said. ....
