Bokaro: In a question raised by BJP’s Bokaro MLA Biranchi Narayan in the assembly on Tuesday, state minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur answering on behalf of interim education minister Hemant Soren said three dozen school buildings owned by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) are shut and the government cannot do anything in these buildings as they are owned by the PSU. At a time when there is a high demand to pursue higher studies among students and Bokaro is an education hub, the shut schools should be utilised, said Narayan in the assembly. All the buildings are sprawling and have ample space. “Lack of proper maintenance has led the buildings to turn into ruins. The district lacks proper educational institutions for higher education,” he said. ....
Sindri: The Dhanbad administration on Tuesday directed the BCCL authority to stop loading coal at the Muraidih coal dump after a clash between two warring factions of labourers. Dhanbad SDO Surendra Kumar said the action was taken to defuse the tension in the area and pave way for the reconciliation talks scheduled on Friday. Kumar said, “We have directed the BCCL management to stop coal loading Muraidih dump till further orders and have invited the warring factions for reconciliation talks on Friday.” Hours ahead of the clash, a gang of around 25 criminals attacked the office of the mining outsourcing company, Maa Ambe, at Benidih under Block II of BCCL on Monday midnight by hurling crude bombs and assaulting the workers of the office. The criminals also set fire to two Volvo trucks parked on the office campus before fleeing. ....
Ranchi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren will canvass for Congress candidates in poll-bound Assam and for the Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) announced on Tuesday. He will, however, not target any of the ruling Mahagathbandhan parties (Congress and RJD) during his campaigns. “Our working president’s (Hemant) campaigning schedules for Assam and West Bengal are being worked out and will be announced soon,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said. Though Bhattacharya did not divulge further details, party sources said Hemant will begin his campaign from the tribal-dominated pockets of Assam to keep its coalition partner Congress back home in good humour. ....
Jamshedpur: A 20-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday for raping a six-year-old girl in the Kapali police outpost area of Chandil in adjoining Seraikela Kharsawan district. The incident occurred at Hasadungri slum in Kapali around 2 pm on Tuesday. The accused, who stays in the neighbourhood of the minor, lured her with chocolates and took her to a deserted room behind a liquor shop in the area and raped her, police said. When the girl screamed out of pain during the assault, pedestrians and passers-by rushed to the spot and caught the culprit, who was attempting to flee. After the girl narrated her ordeal to the people, police were informed and they took custody of the culprit. The youth has been arrested, Chandil SDPO S K Singh said. ....
Jamshedpur: The Covid-induced lockdown and the consequent slowdown in the market have reportedly hampered campus placements at the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. Sources at the institute said that several companies, especially in the automobile, manufacturing, construction and steel sectors, have not provided job offers in the bulk like they used to in other years. “Due to market constraints, several companies are offering jobs in a phased manner. The companies first want to be sure about the prospects of the projects in the pipeline,” the professor in-charge of the placement cell at NIT, Prahlad Prasad, said. He said that owing to the moderate pace of placement, the exercise may stretch till June this year. Earlier, it was expected that the placement process that commenced in September last year would conclude by February 2021. ....
