On July 14, 1994 the Toronto Zoo’s Dominion Ride – better known as the monorail – suffered a catastrophic accident that injured 27 people closed it permanently. The Dominion Ride The electrically powered, air-conditioned, rubber-tired attraction dubbed “The Dominion Ride” carried visitors to various Dominions within the Metro Toronto Zoo since its inception in 1974. There was minor controversary at the time as the monorail cost $14 million dollars while the entire zoo cost just $26 million. Metro’s Park Commissioner at the time, Tommy Thompson, said, “It’s like a man with a $20,000 house parking a $14,000 Cadillac in front.” ....

Photo: BL Soni In order to break the chain of the virus in the state, Maharashtra government on Wednesday issued revised set of guidelines. The guidelines will come into force from April 22, 8 pm and remain in force till May 1, 7 am. The new guidelines includes restrictions on office attendance, duration of marriage ceremony, and public and private transport. The state government has put of list of categories of people who will be allowed to use local trains, metro and monorail services (excepting long-distance trains). ⢠All Government personnel (State/ Central/ Local), Tickets/ passes to be issued to the above category of personnel on the basis of a Government issued identity card only. ....

The UK’s export credit agency UK Export Finance (UKEF) is providing £1.7bn in backing for a monorail project in Egypt, the largest amount it has ever provided for an overseas infrastructure project. UKEF’s support takes the form of a buyer credit guarantee on a €1.89bn loan facility, including financed ECA premium, for a €2.7bn contract supplied by Bombardier Transportation UK. The facility is administered by a syndication of banks, led by JP Morgan as the initial mandated lead arranger and facility agent. The other banks in the syndicate are CaixaBank, Crédit Agricole, Credit Suisse, KfW Ipex-Bank, NatWest, Société Générale and UBS. ....
