In order to effectively address the issues of People With Disability (PWDs) and ensure their inclusion, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called for deliberate effort and a positive attitude by all of society.
The Agency’s Director-General, Dr Garba Abari, made the call during a capacity building workshop organised by the Agency for officers of NOA and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the National Disability Act 2018.
He said with the Act and relevant international conventions to which Nigeria is a signatory, disability needs and rights are now backed by law in Nigeria. ....

A new survey conducted across four states in northwestern Nigeria has revealed that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are the least benefactors of the various national social protection programmes in these states.
This is in spite of the fact that the PWDs are among the most vulnerable and neglected set of people.
The survey, which was conducted in Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano and Zamfara States, was aimed at determining the level of inclusion and participation of PWDs in social protection policies, programmes and processes. ....

2023: 14 CSOs storm N/Assembly, seek e-voting inclusion in Electoral Act

A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) stormed the National Assembly on Tuesday, seeking the inclusion of electronic voting in the Electoral Act.
It also called for a more responsive electoral act that would ensure the inclusion of vulnerable groups especially Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) and those with special needs.
The coalition presented demands to the National Assembly and reminded the parliament of its promise to pass the amended electoral act in the first quarter of 2021.
“In December 2020, the National Assembly held a public hearing on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill which provided an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to participate and make their input to the electoral reform process. ....
