The longtime Lewes resident will often invite the neighborhood kids to tour the art galleries that fill his home. He said adults often get stuck on whether they understand a piece of art, but kids tell you exactly what they feel – unfiltered. Those conversations are what art is about, he says. “Art doesn’t exist by itself, right? If it’s sitting on a wall and there’s nobody in the room, it’s like the tree in the woods,” he said. “So I think of these (pieces of art) as like little television sets of energy pouring out all the time, and you got to go around and look at them.” ....

Masks have been required in the downtown business district and beach parking lots since July, but Lewes Board of Health Chair Dr. Paul Cowan of Beebe Healthcare said it’s now appropriate to allow people to make their own decisions. “From a science standpoint, we have always understood from the early days that natural air is the best antiseptic,” he said. “Whether the virus is spread by droplets or aerosolized, natural airflow pushes it away and to the ground quickly.” ....
Friday, February 12, 2021 Lewes Beach residents used their opportunity to speak at a May 3 public hearing to discourage mayor and city council from passing two controversial ordinances aimed at addressing sea-level rise and source water protection. The ordinances could be considered for a vote by council as early as Monday, May 17; however, Mayor Ted Becker hedged by saying the May 8 election could affect council’s readiness to move forward. While many residents agreed with the spirit of the ordinances, they said the new regulations would hinder their property rights and significantly impact property values on Lewes Beach. The Sussex County Association of Realtors joined with residents in opposition, submitting a letter opposing both proposed ordinances on the basis that they infringe on property rights for about 1,200 property owners. ....
