Abbott AUSTIN – No Texan voted for the California officials who are orchestrating climate change “lawfare” against his state’s energy sector – oil and gas companies that employ hundreds of thousands and bring in billions in tax revenue, says Gov. Greg Abbott. Currently, the Texas Supreme Court is considering ExxonMobil’s petition of review, which asserts California municipalities and a Massachusetts lawyer are attempting to chill speech and commandeer public policy, subjecting them to personal jurisdiction in Texas courts. On May 6, Abbott filed a brief in support of Exxon, asking the Supreme Court to grant the petition for review in order to “resolve an important legal question with major implications for the energy sector in the State of Texas.” ....

Last June, an appellate court ruled it does not have jurisdiction over California cities and counties pursuing climate change lawsuits against the energy sector. The case is now currently before the Texas Supreme Court. Justices have been tasked to decide if ExxonMobil has the authority to investigate those who allegedly orchestrated the litigation.
