11Alive has learned Atlanta’s former police chief warned the city that it needed to reform the way it disciplines officers accused of using unnecessary force after discovering flaws in its system. More than a year and a half later, her recommendations have never been implemented. Former Police Chief Erika Shields’ recommendations were outlined in a December 2020 court deposition as part of a pending federal lawsuit involving a current officer accused of using unnecessary force. The deposition occurred while she was employed by the city, but was no longer leading the department. ► UNNECESSARY POLICE FORCE: Attorneys who filed the lawsuit claim Atlanta officer Donald Vickers used unnecessary force when he tackled their client, Tyler Griffin, in April 2019 during a traffic stop. Under the Act, burgers must be sold with fries and a drink. “Burgers by themselves are not a complete, nutritious meal,” the politician argues, concluding with the uplifting campaign slogan, “Everyone deserves a Happy Meal!” But will the Happy Meal Act make people happy? If burgers must come with fries and a drink, restaurants will increase the price of a “burger.” Even though everyone likes fries and a drink they may not like the added benefits by as much as the increase in the price of the meal. ....
29 Apr 2021 - 11:24 KABUL (Pajhwok): A California man has pleaded guilty in a scheme to defraud the Afghan government of more than $100 million in a contract designed to construct a power grid in the country. Saed Ismail Amiri, 38, of Granite Bay, entered a plea in Los Angeles federal court to one count of wire fraud, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) announced. Court documents describe Amiri, 38, as owner or senior consultant of Assist Consultants Incorporated (ACI), an Afghan company that had received over $250 million in US- funded contracts in Afghanistan since 2013. Amiri pleaded guilty to wire fraud in a SIGAR-led case centered on US-funded efforts to construct five electric power substations to connect Afghanistan’s Northeastern and Southeastern electric grid systems. ....
