Community Center closing two months for renovations


The Town Council gave approval for the initial contracts for the planned renovations to the Fountain Hills Community Center, which are to take place over the upcoming summer months.
Along with the approval, it was noted that the Community Center will be closed from July 1 through Labor Day to accommodate the work.
The Community Center was built in 2001 and, due to age and wear over the past 20 years, the interior of the building needs an extensive cosmetic updating and renovation, according to staff.
Council gave its unanimous approval to the contracts for restroom remodeling, flooring and painting.
An agreement with Continental Flooring is for $263,000 and covers the purchase and installation of new carpeting and tile. ....

Peoria City Council approves new district for sewage overflow fix fees


PEORIA
   The Peoria City Council, as part of the ongoing effort to fix to its sewer overflow problem, approved creating a Combined Sewer Overflow Remediation District.
Such a move will allow City Hall to levy a new fee to help pay for the $109 million of improvements that were agreed upon by the state and federal Environmental Protection Agencies.
But Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich said the residents will not initially see an increase in their bills. The idea is that as the city spends up to $109 million to stop raw sewage from pouring into the Illinois River, other fees already levied to rehab the city s existing lines could come down. ....
