In honor of National Poetry Month this April, Sounds Good will present special programming Mondays beginning April 5th at 11 am. These programs from PRX will honor significant poetry contributions of the last 200 years from Plath to Whitman, Dickenson to Kerouac.

The American flag has become a symbol of right-wing politics. Democrats can insist otherwise, but honest observers will concede that when they see a house, vehicle, or wardrobe adorned with the stars and stripes, it probably belongs to an American whose conception of patriotism allows everyone to have easy access to a firearm arsenal, but medicine to remain a high-priced luxury item. 
The success of the right wing in their co-optation of patriotic language and symbols reached its absurd zenith on Jan. 6 when a mob of domestic terrorists proudly waved the flag and chanted,  USA!  before assaulting police officers and attempting to murder elected officials in their aspiration to replace American democracy with a dynastic dictatorship.  ....

LIBRARY FAN Who doesn’t like their local library? Like many other institutions, libraries have been hit hard by the pandemic. Come out to support them in “Libraries are Central. Be a Fan!,” a fundraiser hosted by Roman Mars, creator of the radio show 99% Invisible. In this online event, you’ll get a tour of the Berkeley Public Library’s newly renovated Central Library spaces, as well as performances of music, dance, theater, poetry, and prose by authors and library lovers from Berkeley and beyond. Make sure to also check out their online auction. Come out and show some love to your library. Saturday, March 6. 5-6 p.m. Online auction is open for bidding until noon on March 7.
