Williamsport man gets 25-year prison term in heroin, fentanyl case | News, Sports, Jobs

A 46-year-old city man received a 25 year prison sentence for his part in a drug trafficking resulting in a rash of heroin overdoses in 2017.
Raymond Howard recently was sentenced to 300 months’ imprisonment followed by a four-year term of supervised release by U.S. Middle District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Howard was found guilty after a five-day jury trial in October 2020 to conspiring to distribute heroin and a mixture of heroin and carfentanil.
During a three-day period in June 2017, there was a rash of drug overdoses in the city and region. ....

City man allegedly made threats
Weldon Fletcher, 41, of 1421 W. Fourth St., has been jailed on charges of allegedly threatening a woman and her son first with a machete and then with a handgun, city police said.
Police responded to Fletcher’s home to handle a domestic situation about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Police said Fletcher allegedly threatened Shanee Gaines and her son with a machete following an argument between Fletcher and Gaines inside the home.
After Gaines managed to convince Fletcher to put down the machete, Fletcher then obtained a handgun and began waving it around, pointing it at both Gaines and her son and threatening to kill them, police alleged. After obtaining a search warrant, officers went through the home and seized two handguns and a machete. ....

Mother speaks on law enforcement relations with autistic people | News, Sports, Jobs

In the fourth virtual meeting to address criminal justice reform for Pennsylvanians with Autism, a Lycoming County woman and parent of a person with autism, spoke candidly about her experiences and provided suggestions for change in protocols in the courtroom and with law enforcement.
Shelly Mattie, of Montoursville, said that her son, Connor, who was
diagnosed with autism when he was three, has had two negative incidents with police officers while experiencing a “meltdown.”
“An individual with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) is seven times more likely to have police interaction than their peers,” said Mattie.
“Autism is not a disability, it is a different ability,” said Justice Kevin Dougherty of the state Supreme Court. “Services and support are the answer, incarceration is not. We need to make change throughout Pennsylvania. If we change the way we look at things, the things we look at will change.” ....

Born Helen Louise Fry March 12, 1951, in Elimsport to James Albert Fry and Isabel Florence Hill Fry, was called home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 8, 2021.
A graduate of Montgomery High School, Helen excelled in most everything she set her mind and work ethic to. She made it her mission to keep learning and earned many additional certifications over her career. Working mostly in the Social Services arena, she served at the Children’s Aide Society of Chambersburg, Pa., as the Activities Director for the Upper Adams Senior Center in Biglerville, Pa., as an Ombudsman for the elderly in nursing homes and assisted living sites and Admissions Coordinator and Social Services Director at the Caledonia Manor Nursing Home in Fayetteville, Pa. She was also a part-time correspondent for the Gettysburg Times, writing numerous articles about senior citizens. ....
