AN ACCUSED vigilantie driver charged with murder after the death of Jennifer Board will make a bid for freedom next week.
Christopher Hughes, 26, has spent the past three months behind bars on remand since he was arrested and charged with murder earlier this year.
The 26-year-old is accused of being behind the wheel of a Holden Statesman that was involved in a tragic crash on Friday, February 5, 2021.
Bail application documents were filed in the Cairns Supreme Court on Wednesday with the hearing set to go before a judge next Friday.
Police allege Hughes was dangerously chasing a stolen Hyundai through Townsville rammed the other vehicle on Ross River Rd. ....

Proposed lime imports an unacceptable biosecurity risk
Officers from the Federal Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment held a meeting in Mareeba today to discuss an import risk assessment that proposes to allow lime imports from Mexico.
The meeting was attended by more than 50 growers from the district who are planning to take their concerns to Queensland Agriculture Minister Keith Furner and Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud.
Many growers shared their concerns that allowing imports of Mexican limes would impact profitability of their farms at a time when labour is difficult to access and when they were still recovering from impacts of the pandemic on the food services sector and the domestic market. ....

Something bigger


Some sporting events capture the imagination and inspire something bigger. The Cairns Ironman Triathlon is one such event. The sheer challenge of the distance requires an extraordinary effort.
The Ironman involves a 3.8km Swim off Palm Cove beach, a 180km Bike to Port Douglas return to Cairns, and a 42.2km Run along the Cairns esplanade. That is a big day of 226km.
However, this big day points to something bigger. On race day, 6th June, I want to compete in this Ironman to raise $2,260 for my amazing friends at Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).
