Medina welcomes new Fire Chief Larry Walters Alyssa Alfano, cleveland.com MEDINA, Ohio Mayor Dennis Hanwell swore in Larry Walters as the city’s newest fire chief last week. Walters has worked for the Medina Fire Department since 1992. He was a firefighter from 1992 to 1997 and then from 2001 to 2017. In 2017, he was promoted to captain. He also serves as a rescue team leader for the Medina County All-Hazards Team. Members of the fire department, city officials and community members gathered at City Hall to see Walters get sworn in. “It’s very special. The support, obviously, is incredible and the opportunity to serve, as I have been, just in a different role, is just incredible,” Walters said. “I’m very excited.” ....

Several other turtles, however, managed to survive thanks to a heroic team of firefighters. They not only snatched the turtles from certain death, but also administered to them oxygen; from tiny, ridiculously cute oxygen masks. Medina Fire Department Laughing Squid reported on the event, which occurred in late February. The Medina Fire Department reported on Facebook that Turtle World’s neighbors were the first to notice fire coming from the shed. After arriving on the scene, the firefighters put out the blaze and began removing turtles. ....

MEDINA â A three-time ex-con was arrested after he led police on a high-speed chase through two counties late Thursday night, village police said. Village officers were called to the 800 block of South Main Street for report of suspicious activity. When officers arrived, a car took off and refused to stop. Orleans County sheriffâs deputies and state police joined the pursuit, which went into Niagara County and then back into Orleans. The driver of the car crashed into a fence off Dublin Road, near Fruit Avenue in the town of Ridgeway. Three people were in the car and two took off on foot, police said. ....
