Medina welcomes new Fire Chief Larry Walters Alyssa Alfano, cleveland.com MEDINA, Ohio Mayor Dennis Hanwell swore in Larry Walters as the city’s newest fire chief last week. Walters has worked for the Medina Fire Department since 1992. He was a firefighter from 1992 to 1997 and then from 2001 to 2017. In 2017, he was promoted to captain. He also serves as a rescue team leader for the Medina County All-Hazards Team. Members of the fire department, city officials and community members gathered at City Hall to see Walters get sworn in. “It’s very special. The support, obviously, is incredible and the opportunity to serve, as I have been, just in a different role, is just incredible,” Walters said. “I’m very excited.” ....
Medina County Courthouse debate continues as citizens group takes concerns to state level Alyssa Alfano, cleveland.com MEDINA, Ohio The group hoping to preserve the Medina County Courthouse and block a planned renovation has filed an action with the Ohio Supreme Court to stop the city from acting “in violation of the courthouse initiative that was overwhelmingly passed by the voters last November,” according to a press release. “Issue 7 that was passed by the voters last November requires that before the city can spend money on the joint city/county courthouse project, such expenditures need to be approved by a majority of all the people that are eligible to vote in the city of Medina,” said Pat Walker, a member of the Save Your Courthouse Committee. ....
