India’s soft diplomacy has been on display during the Covid-19 pandemic from supplying medicines like hydroxychloroquine, paracetamol and medical equipment to other countries, to New Delhi kick-starting the supply of Indian-manufactured coronavirus vaccines on Wednesday to neighbouring countries as a goodwill gesture.
A chunk of the vaccines being dispatched to the neighbouring countries is on a grant basis. A consignment packed off from the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, with 150,000 doses, was delivered to Bhutan on Wednesday. As far as Bhutan is concerned, trade of essential supplies continued to the neighbour despite Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020. ....

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Bangladesh has started actively considering various farming options in Middle East (ME) and African countries utilizing different bilateral and multilateral channels, especially the platform of OIC.
“Bangladesh through the platform of Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) can take some projects in African region for cultivating crops,” he said.
The foreign minister was speaking at a function marking a lecture on “Contract Farming and Job Opportunity for Bangladesh Abroad” organized by Bangabandhu Research Centre for Foreign Policy and Diplomacy at Foreign Service Academy in the capital. ....

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka became ‘cautiously optimistic’ to start much-demanded Rohingya repatriation from 2nd quarter of this year as Naypyidaw showed its flexibility to take back their nationals at today’s tripartite meeting among Bangladesh, China and Myanmar over the crisis.
“In diplomatic language, I can say – we are ‘cautiously optimistic’ (of starting repatriation by 2nd quarter of this year) … we are sincerely engaged so that, at least, we can start the (repatriation) process,” foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen said here after the meeting.
The senior secretary, who led the Bangladesh delegation, was speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Ministry after the 90-minute virtual tripartite meeting this afternoon. ....
