Long-Awaited Smithfield Gateway Project Begins in Pennsylvania : CEG

Construction of the much-anticipated Smithfield Gateway project in eastern Pennsylvania s Monroe County has begun as workers installed a 6-ft. pipe that will drain stormwater to Brodhead Creek.
It s the first physical step in a multi-year development process in Smithfield Township that will include the widening of U.S. Highway 209 and the construction of a residential and retail complex on the former Mosier Dairy Farm.
Installing the pipe 30 ft. underground, from the development site north of U.S. 209 to the creek, will take several months, said Doug Olmstead, development manager of DEPG/Legend Management Services. ....

The Nature Conservancy and Pennsylvanias Bureau of Forestry Add 373 acres to State Forest lands

The Nature Conservancy in Pennsylvania has announced the transfer of 373 acres of land in Canadensis to Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Forestry.  That land, along with two previous transfers of 376 and 319 acres totals 1,068 acres that TNC and the Bureau have collaboratively protected since 2017 to expand State Forest lands in the Pocono Mountains.
“It’s a great day when more than 1,000 acres of wild, forested land are permanently protected,” said Ellen Lott, Conservation Lands Project Manager for TNC in Pennsylvania and Delaware. “We’re thrilled to transfer these properties to DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry, which manages Pennsylvania’s forests. These additions will provide new recreational opportunities while protecting wildlife habitat, sensitive wetlands and healthy waterways.” ....
