Work resumes at Limerick's Opera site after 4 month delay

Works have resumed at Limerick s Opera Site as the 2021 demolition and enabling works programme kicked off today.
It follows a four-month delay enforced on all commercial property sites due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The construction programme will see up to 500 people employed at peak output on the site, with numbers in the demolition and enabling works set to ramp up to 60 this year following the resumption of activity today.
In addition to getting activity back on the rails, this will, CEO of Limerick Twenty Thirty David Conway stated, be a much-needed boost to the city centre this year. ....

Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD, today announced that 85 heritage projects right across the country will benefit from a total of €3m under this year’s Historic Structures Fund (HSF).
Announcing the funding today, Minister Noonan said:
“I am delighted to announce another €3m investment in our built heritage. This year’s Historic Structures Fund will assist 85 owners and custodians of historic and protected structures across the country as they carry out a range of conservation projects to repair and safeguard our built heritage and supporting local employment of skilled conservation workers and tradespeople. Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform; Malcolm Noonan has announced funding for this year’s Historic Structures Fund and the good news is that three Kilkenny city projects are included in the allocation. 
Rothe House is to receive €50,000, Shee Alms House on Rose Inn Street is to receive €150,000 over two years and Tynan’s Bridge House Bar is to receive €15,000 under a new element of the fund for heritage shopfronts. 
Rose Cottage in Johnswell is also a recipient of €10,000 to repair the corrugated roof structure. Shankill Castle received €50,000, The Heritage Council €42,500 and Kells House €37,000. ....

24 projects across Offaly received a total of € 94,800 under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2021.
The BHIS is one of two built heritage funding schemes run by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in association with 31 local authorities.  Through grants of up to €15,000, the BHIS assists owners of heritage structures – including those on the local authorities’ Record of Protected Structures and those in Architectural Conservation Areas – to meet their obligations to care for their properties. The scheme is not limited to private dwellings and also provides assistance to a wide range of other important heritage structures including an early concrete bridge in Birr. ....
