When in 2008, Offaly County Council set out to make a new plan for the town of Tullamore, the world was a different place.
The economy was booming, house prices were sky high, huge shopping centres were being planned, the two car family and their three foreign holidays a year was not unusual. Combining with Athlone and Mullingar, Tullamore would form part of a regional counterbalance to Dublin and a new international airport would be its focus. What could possibly go wrong? ....

Green Party to Host Tullamore Town Centre Meeting

Tullamore has potential to enhance its town centre for residents, visitors, and the local economy, according to the Green Party, whose Town Centres First strategy will be discussed at a Tullamore Town Meeting on June 3.
The Zoom meeting will be hosted by Minister Pippa Hackett, and will include presentations from Green Party Cllr Louise Heavin of Athlone, and former Offaly planner Vincent Hussey.
“We pushed for a Town Centres First strategy in the Programme for Government and we’d like to talk about how that strategy might apply to Tullamore,” says Minister Hackett. “I’m looking forward to hearing from residents on how they envisage the future of the town. ....

Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD, today announced that 85 heritage projects right across the country will benefit from a total of €3m under this year’s Historic Structures Fund (HSF).
Announcing the funding today, Minister Noonan said:
“I am delighted to announce another €3m investment in our built heritage. This year’s Historic Structures Fund will assist 85 owners and custodians of historic and protected structures across the country as they carry out a range of conservation projects to repair and safeguard our built heritage and supporting local employment of skilled conservation workers and tradespeople. I am particularly pleased to announce the awards to vernacular structures and historic shopfronts made under the two pilots streams introduced this year. These awar ....

Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform; Malcolm Noonan has announced funding for this year’s Historic Structures Fund and the good news is that three Kilkenny city projects are included in the allocation. 
Rothe House is to receive €50,000, Shee Alms House on Rose Inn Street is to receive €150,000 over two years and Tynan’s Bridge House Bar is to receive €15,000 under a new element of the fund for heritage shopfronts. 
Rose Cottage in Johnswell is also a recipient of €10,000 to repair the corrugated roof structure. Shankill Castle received €50,000, The Heritage Council €42,500 and Kells House €37,000. ....
