An Alabama college student was fatally shot Thursday night after she and a friend arranged to meet with an unidentified suspect to sell a pair of AirPods for $100.
The victim, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner s Office as 20-year-old Destiny Danielle Washington of Trussville, was a nursing student completing classes at Lawson State Community College through a joint admission program with the University of Alabama Birmingham, reports AL.com.

The UAB Police and Public Safety department said the victim was allegedly shot in a parking lot outside of the Hill Student Center on campus by an unnamed suspect, after the victim and a friend had arranged to meet with the suspect to sell the headphones, according to a news release. ....

Mother of UAB student killed in 2007 offers words of encouragement for Washington family

TRUSSVILLE The shooting death of a 20-year-old student on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, brings back memories of a real-life nightmare to an incident that happened on Oct. 8, 2007.
Two female students, both aged 20, gunned down. Both young women, known for their smiles and their motivation to help others. Both young women with so much potential, taken from this world due to senseless violence.
The mother of Kayla Fanaei, who was shot and killed while sitting in her car in 2007, will never completely heal from the loss of her child. Fanaei was much more than a shooting victim. She went to school, worked two jobs and volunteered for a crisis hotline. The loss has been immeasurable for her mother. But just like her daughter, Robin Groom is willing to help encourage and try to help others heal. ....
