Felon gets 10 years in prison for shooting AK-47 in Fort Myers parking lot


A Fort Myers man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison in connection with a 2020 shooting in an apartment complex parking lot.
Jamar Maurice James, 31, who had pleaded guilty Jan. 13, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell for possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.
Shortly after 3 a.m. Feb. 17, 2020, Fort Myers police responded to a “ShotSpotter” gunfire locator alert at the Jones Walker Palm Gardens Apartments in Fort Myers, according to court documents. 
Officers stated they found six spent ammunition cartridge casings on the apartment complex parking lot. A subsequent investigation found James had discharged an AK-47 rifle in the parking lot of the complex and fled before police arrived. No one was wounded. ....

Feds: Jersey City convicted felon who shot someone pleads guilty to gun and ammo charges

Hassan Mosby, 40, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to an indictment charging him with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
On October 12th, 2019, members of the Jersey City Police Department were dispatched to the area of Martin Luther King Drive between Woodlawn Avenue and Armstrong Avenue in Jersey City on a report of shots fired in the area.
Officers located a crime scene which included six 9-millimeter shell casings. While the officers were canvassing the area and processing the crime scene, they reviewed video footage from city cameras located near the shooting. ....

SunComm Starts Smart911 Program in Yakima County
If you have someone with special needs in your home SunComm, the 9-1-1 and dispatch center has started a new program called Smart911. The free subscription based service allows people to give more helpful information to a 9-1-1 call taker that would help authorities deal with a person who has special needs. Local officials say that s the goal of the program to give first responders more information before they arrive at the scene. A press release from SunComm says a household subscribing to Smart911 can add this information in a secure and protected application that would then show up to the call taker, who then can provide that information to first responders so they are aware of those special circumstances. Officials say it can also be used to provide more information that could benefit first responders alerting them to pets, gate and door codes that could make the response safer and faster. ....

New Program Launched to Help Police Help Others
It s a new program to help Yakima Police Officers deal with people with special needs. It s called Project Guardian and if you have a person with special needs in your home you ll want to be part of the program. Yakima Police officials say Police often don’t know whether or not individuals they encounter have special needs because there aren’t any physical signs. Flashing lights on an emergency vehicle, for example, might cause a person with special needs to become frightened and act out. What may seem like a simple interaction with police could be a very traumatic situation for a person with special needs and confusing to officers. The program isn t just to alert police officers. It s also designed to alert other emergency responders like firefighters and paramedics who may need to know how to respond to a person who is in need of help. ....
