Billings man sentenced for meth trafficking, illegal possession of firearm


BILLINGS – A Billings man convicted of trafficking methamphetamine and illegally possessing a firearm was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison and to four years of supervised release, Acting U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson said in a release.
Calvin Tyrone Bowens, 40, pleaded guilty on Dec. 9, 2020 to possession with intent to distribute meth and to prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided.
In court documents filed in the case, the government alleged that on April 7, 2020, Montana State Probation and Parole officers searched Bowens’ residence after law enforcement stopped him earlier and he admitted to possessing a firearm and narcotics at his home. Bowens was on state probation for felony convictions at the time and was prohibited from possessing firearms. ....

Hunter Biden, the president’s son, seemingly faces no legal consequences for a possible deception during a background check while buying a gun.
It’s not clear whether the younger Biden broke the letter of  federal gun law, although several legal experts and commentators say the question warrants an investigation.

Neptune City NJ man sentenced for illegally possessing machine gun


A Neptune City man was sentenced to 57 months in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to illegally possessing a handgun that had been converted into a machine gun, federal authorities announced. 
Davon Harley, 30, pleaded guilty to one count each of being a felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a machine gun, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said in a news release. Harley pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Court Judge Peter G. Sheridan.
Harley was charged last May following an investigation into a February 2020 incident when a Neptune City police officer confronted Harley during an argument with others in the yard of an apartment complex, according to court documents. ....
