May 3, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / [email protected] A proposal for engineering services related to the rehabilitation of the Hay Creek Bridge on the Lakeland Trail in Hamburg Township has been approved. The bridge was originally built as a train bridge in the late 1800âs and now serves as a pedestrian/maintenance access bridge for the Lakeland Trail. The existing walking surface and guardrails are in need of replacement. At a virtual board meeting last month, members voted to approve the engineering proposal at a fixed fee of $14,000. Supervisor Pat Hohl told the board five years ago, they identified a serious need to address the decking on the Mike Levine Trail Bridge west of Chambers Road over Hay Creek, noting the structure is good but the decking is bad. ....

April 19, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / [email protected] A paving project that had been set to begin on a busy road in Hamburg Township today has been postponed due to low temperatures and possible snow in the forecast this week. A roughly 1.5-mile stretch of Chilson Road will be resurfaced from the intersection of Swarthout Road, north to the township line â which is just south of the railroad tracks near the Brighton State Recreation area. Itâs approximately 3/8 of a mile north of Bishop Lake Road by the MDNRâs Smokey the Bear sign. The work was originally set to begin Monday morning, but according to the Livingston County Road Commission, that has been delayed due to unseasonably cold weather in the forecast this week, including the possibility of snow on Tuesday. ....
April 12, 2021 The 2021 road improvement program has been finalized for Hamburg Township. At a recent virtual meeting, the board voted unanimously to move forward with the program for both gravel ad paved roads. Itâs a cost-sharing partnership with the Livingston County Road Commission. Various project agreements have been received and the cost to the township will be $1.8 (m) million. Some of that will come from the general fund but will be reimbursed later this year with road millage funds. Supervisor Pat Hohl noted he had some discussions with the Road Commission and Drain Commission last fall and there was serious interest in trying to upgrade Teahen Road. However, he said it now appears that a drain will be established through a resident petition on Teahen Road. Hohl said itâs very preliminary but the Drain Commission is moving forward with that. As for objectives, he said presumably, parts of Teahen Road will be blacktop or hard ....
