Charles “Rusty” E. Larimer
Charles “Rusty” E. Larimer, 76, of Bellefonte, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born on July 18, 1944 in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Herbert F. and Mildred (Mann) Larimer. On May 27, 1967 he married the love of his life, Charlotte (Burch) Larimer, who survives at home after sharing nearly 54 years of marriage together.
Rusty was a 1962 graduate of Bellefonte High School. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force from July 1962 until he was honorably discharged in in June 1966. Rusty worked for Verizon for 35 years until his retirement. He worked part time in retirement at Triangle Building and Supplies. ....

Bellefonte Retires Red Raiders Mascot Imagery


The Bellefonte Area School District has decided to retire the Red Raiders mascot imagery after months of debate and extensive research by the school district. Next up is a meeting to discuss and vote on the continued use of the Red Raiders nickname to represent the district.
The Native American imagery and Red Raiders moniker that is used by the district’s sports teams have been hotly debated since last June, when some community members asked for removal, calling it culturally insensitive.
This came as many social justice protests took place around the country during the spring and summer of 2020. ....

Joseph “Joe” M. Benner, 72, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on April 9, 1949 in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Dorothy Hull and was raised by his grandparents, the late Russell and Helen Benner.
On Nov. 8, 1968, he married Deborah (Garner) Benner, who survives him at home after sharing over 52 years of marriage together.
Joe was a graduate of Bellefonte High School, Class of 1967. Prior to his retirement, Joe worked for Weis Markets for more than 50 years.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by his children, Amy Jo Benner, and Carol Fazler (Karl); two brothers, Ed Benner, and Tom Benner (Janet), and one sister, Helen Eckley (Dale). Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Greg Garner (Sue), sisters-in-law, Bonnie Burris (Jim), and Karin Garner; three grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces a ....

MONSIGNOR PHILIP SAYLOR
Monsignor Philip P. Saylor, 91, passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Monsignor was the first born of Philip and Katherine (Hoy) Saylor on Oct. 1, 1929 in Centre Community Hospital.
He is survived by a sister, Irene Dornisch and her husband Bernard of Lock Haven; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and a sister, Elizabeth.
He attended the original Saint John’s Catholic School in Bellefonte where he was taught by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. He graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1947, where he was senior class president as well as newspaper editor. ....
