Staff Writer ST. CLAIRSVILLE Belmont County’s senior citizens can look forward to a step-by-step return to activities and events at area senior centers if COVID-19 cases decline as anticipated. During a report to the Belmont County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, Senior Services Director Dwayne Pielech said he was encouraged by the high number of vaccinated senior citizens in Belmont County combined with the improving weather and the prospect of holding outdoor events. “The coronavirus and all the rules and regulations that go with it have been difficult on Americans, and it’s no different in Belmont County both for our seniors who were active members of our senior centers prior to the pandemic including our staff,” Pielech said. “It’s been a long 15 months since our centers closed, and we’re trying to do whatever we can.” ....

Times Leader Staff Writer Belmont County Deputy Health Commissioner Robert Sproul reports Monday to the health board that COVID-19 vaccinations will begin at Belmont College this week. ST. CLAIRSVILLE The Belmont County Health Department board is anticipating vaccinating college students this week against the COVID-19 pandemic, and will approach the county commissioners about the possibility of a new and bigger headquarters in the future. Board member Joel Braido suggested the board might speak with the Belmont County Board of Commissioners in the near future about expanding the headquarters. As usual since the pandemic reached its peak, the health board met in the command center of the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency where social distancing guidelines of about six feet between people could be maintained. ....
ST. CLAIRSVILLE Some long-awaited slip repairs are coming to Belmont County. The Belmont County Board of Commissioners adopted the final resolutions for three Ohio Department of Transportation projects, with local shares to be paid using license plate fees. On Wednesday, Belmont County Engineer Terry Lively said these repairs will address road slips from 2018. “It’s been a long process, but we’re finally there, at least on these projects,” Lively said. On Belmont County Road 46, or New Cut Road, shaft retaining walls will be built, including pavement repair and pavement marking. The estimated local share comes to $238,7000. “There’s actually three slip projects included in this,” Lively said. “Two of them are from 2018. One of them from 2019. ODOT moved it up because it made sense to group them together when we’ve got the equipment there. It saved money off mobilization costs.” ....
