CLAIRSVILLE With demand for COVID-19 vaccination declining in Belmont County, the health department’s weekly shot clinic at the Ohio Valley Mall is expected to end May 20. After that, Belmont County Deputy Health Commissioner Robert Sproul said, health department staff likely will continue to set up clinics around Belmont County by request. “We’re going to try and go around the community,” Sproul said. “We’re going to try to reach out to different communities and different locations, so that way we can be in the community with the shot, so they wouldn’t have to drive to our place. If Bethesda wanted, we would find some place in Bethesda to sit down and give the shots and come back in 28 days and do the second shot.” ....
Times Leader Staff Writer Belmont County Deputy Health Commissioner Robert Sproul reports Monday to the health board that COVID-19 vaccinations will begin at Belmont College this week. ST. CLAIRSVILLE The Belmont County Health Department board is anticipating vaccinating college students this week against the COVID-19 pandemic, and will approach the county commissioners about the possibility of a new and bigger headquarters in the future. Board member Joel Braido suggested the board might speak with the Belmont County Board of Commissioners in the near future about expanding the headquarters. As usual since the pandemic reached its peak, the health board met in the command center of the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency where social distancing guidelines of about six feet between people could be maintained. ....

Staff Writer Photo Provided THE BROOKSIDE Volunteer Fire Department created grab-and-go kits containing personal protective equipment for its members heading to medical and other calls. BROOKSIDE The Brookside Volunteer Fire Department is putting federal COVID-related dollars to good use by creating PPE kits for its members, along with purchasing a new machine to clean its ambulance and fire station. Brookside VFD Chief Allan Ketzell said the department recently created “COVID kits” that contain either a protective gown or coveralls, shoe covers, surgical mask and N95 mask, safety glasses, gloves and trash bag. The items are contained in a 2-gallon plastic bag and can be grabbed by personnel on their way to an emergency or to treat and transport a patient. ....
