WHEELING The Wheeling Hospital EMS Department awarded the James “Jimmy” Horton Award for 2020 to Brookside Assistant Fire Chief Allan G. Ketzell II.
The Horton Award was started in 2019 after Horton died on Sept. 4 that year. It was established to recognize an active emergency medical technician, advanced emergency medical technician or paramedic who has served at least 25 years and is very active in the community.
Horton served as the Adena mayor and was on Adena Village Council. He also was former fire chief of Adena (currently Short Creek Fire District), a paramedic, a state EMS instructor, coordinator of the Harrison Community Hospital Ambulances, and was involved in numerous other groups and organizations. ....

'COVID kits' give Brookside VFD safety, time | News, Sports, Jobs

THE BROOKSIDE Volunteer Fire Department created grab-and-go kits containing personal protective equipment for its members heading to medical and other calls.
BROOKSIDE The Brookside Volunteer Fire Department is putting federal COVID-related dollars to good use by creating PPE kits for its members, along with purchasing a new machine to clean its ambulance and fire station.
Brookside VFD Chief Allan Ketzell said the department recently created “COVID kits” that contain either a protective gown or coveralls, shoe covers, surgical mask and N95 mask, safety glasses, gloves and trash bag. The items are contained in a 2-gallon plastic bag and can be grabbed by personnel on their way to an emergency or to treat and transport a patient. ....
