Private schools defer resumption of offline classes after surge in new cases | Ranchi News

Ranchi: Instead of waiting for directives from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), many schools have decided not to start offline classes from Monday. Following the directives of the Centre and the state, the schools had earlier agreed to conduct offline classes for senior students from the fresh session. But given the unprecedented surge in Covid cases, they have decided not to risk the health of students.
Bishop Westcott group of schools has already circulated a message to the students to this effect informing that online classes will continue for Classes KG to X. Sixteen staff members of the group’s girls’ school in Namkom were found infected after a parent-teacher meeting in the second half of March. ....

Birsa Agriculture University, the state’s premier agriculture varsity, on Monday announced postponement of the counselling process for admission into post graduate and Ph.d programmes till further notice owing to the shutdown of its administrative unit for two days after three staff members tested positive for Covid on Sunday.
“Counselling for all PG and Ph.D programmes for admission scheduled on April 7, 9 and 12, is hereby postponed due to the second phase of Covid outbreak. The next schedule for Offline / Online counselling will be announced well in advance,” read a statement from the varsity. ....

Ranchi: Although the state government in a late evening order on Thursday allowed schools to reopen from Class VIII onwards, most of the educational institutions said they will go ahead with their plan to conduct the year-end examinations online.
Principal of Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School Manohar Lal said, “There will be no change in the examination plan of our school and several others. The dates of tests have already been announced.”
Lal also said this time, his school will emphasise more on multiple choice questions (MCQ) than subjective types. During the examinations, students will be divided into smaller groups for closer monitoring by teachers. ....

RANCHI: Principals of several schools have demanded resumption of offline classes for all students with the proper safety guidelines from the new academic session starting in April. They said that schools would call students in a staggered manner to prevent overcrowding on the campus.
The views were expressed during a meeting of principals with education secretary Rahul Sharma on Wednesday. Heads of more than a dozen prominent schools including Delhi Public School, Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Bishop Westcott, St Thomas and DAV schools attended the meeting. ....

Modest response to admission in nursery classes | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The response of parents for admission to nursery classes has been lukewarm this year.
Notably, schools are taking admission through the online system since the past 20 days. They are also giving option to the parents to visit campuses and complete the admission process while following Covid protocols.
Several schools like the Delhi Public School have also stopped receiving applications. School principal Dr Ram Singh said that his institution would select the students from the applications received on the basis of several factors like proximity of their residences to the school, among others.
While refusing to share the exact details of applications this year, the school said that the number of applications has been significantly lower in comparison to previous years. ....
