BAU medic bags patent for herbal pill for fever, body ache | Ranchi News


Ranchi: A scientist from Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), identified as Dr Kaushal Kumar, was granted patent by the Indian Patent Office, Kolkata for his herbal medicine, BAU Birsin, which can be used for treating cough and cold, body ache and fever. With this, the medicine will be produced commercially and talks in this regard are already underway with the National Biodiversity Authority in Chennai.
According to university officials, Kumar is the first person from BAU to achieve such a thing and the vice-chancellor, Dr Onkar Nath Singh, met him on Friday to congratulate him.
Kumar presently heads the department of forest products and utilization at BAU. Before joining BAU, he worked as a senior scientist and headed the herbal section at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. ....

RANCHI: The Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) on Monday postponed its counselling sessions for PG and PhD students, which were to be held both online and offline on April 7, 9 and 12, in the wake of a surge in Covid-19 cases. BAU official Pankaj Vatsal said, “A committee will work out the modalities for completing the counselling process.”
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Onkar Nath Singh and attended by the dean, director and other officials.
Last week, BAU had shut its administrative building till Tuesday for fumigation after three of its staff members tested positive for Covid on Saturday. ....

Birsa Agriculture University, the state’s premier agriculture varsity, on Monday announced postponement of the counselling process for admission into post graduate and Ph.d programmes till further notice owing to the shutdown of its administrative unit for two days after three staff members tested positive for Covid on Sunday.
“Counselling for all PG and Ph.D programmes for admission scheduled on April 7, 9 and 12, is hereby postponed due to the second phase of Covid outbreak. The next schedule for Offline / Online counselling will be announced well in advance,” read a statement from the varsity. ....

Governor calls for lost-cost tech to help small farmers


Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu has stressed on developing and extending need-based, low-cost, system-responsive farm technologies for small and marginal farmers who constitute over 80 percent of in the state.
Inaugurating the three-day eastern region regional Agrotech-2021 Mela at Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) on Friday, she said a major part of the state’s arable land remained fallow during the rabi season due to the prevalence of rain-fed farming amid inadequate irrigation facilities. She clalled for focussed research on developing early maturing crop varieties with low water requirement.
“Integrated farming,  incorporating animal husbandry, poultry, fishery and forestry in to the system, should be promoted for minimizing losses and insyances of crop failure due to aberrant weather conditions,” she said.  ....
