(Photo submitted) Published May 14. 2021 9:00AM  Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has named Michael Fabian of East Lyme, a banker with extensive industry experience, as its new mortgage officer. Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and chief executive, cited Fabian’s “understanding of mortgage lending and his familiarity with our housing market” in making the announcement. Fabian joins a lending team at Charter Oak that has originated almost 11,000 mortgages in New London and Windham counties with a total value of nearly $1.4 billion over the past decade,, based on annual data compiled by the Massachusetts-based Warren Group’s Residential Mortgage Marketshare Report, accord to a release.

Friends & Neighbors Frances Godek Goodman Frances Godek Goodman of Mystic has spent her professional career focused on financial education, and now she has written a book to transmit a lifetime of knowledge. “I started my career teaching at Bay Path University,” she said in an email. “I left teaching to become the co-founder of the Center for Tax Education and Research, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation.” After the center’s dissolution, she took a position as a financial counselor and educator/trainer with the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Now retired, she recently penned an eBook, “Small Steps and Stories to Achieve Financial Security.” It is free on Amazon Kindle, and costs 99 cents if not a member. Sales are being donated to veteran organizations.

Published April 19. 2021 3:51PM  Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has donated $32,000 in additional emergency food assistance to eastern Connecticut’s food pantries and food centers to help those in need during the continuing COVID-19 health crisis. Since this past April, Charter Oak has donated a total of $139,000 in emergency grants to food centers and food pantries that serve New London and Windham counties. “The effects of COVID-19 are still impacting our region, especially for those who face food insecurity issues, and it’s our hope that this additional $32,000 will go a long way in restocking supplies for those most in need during this pandemic,” Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and chief executive, said in a release.

Published December 09. 2020 5:44PM  Get the weekly rundown Email Submit Through its Matching Gifts Program, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union and its members have donated $400,000 to 283 charities and nonprofits this year, Charter Oak announced in a news release. The program runs from August to November every year and matches all qualified donations that members make to nonprofit charities. This year, the program matched 970 donations made to 283 organizations, which locally include the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center and St. Vincent de Paul Place. Since the program s founding in 2016, the combined giving of the credit union and its members to charities and nonprofits in eastern Connecticut has totaled nearly $1.6 million, according to Charter Oak.
