Monroe County reinstating 14-day quarantine rules for COVID-19
The Monroe County Health Department has reinstated a 14-day quarantine for anyone who is a close contact of COVID-19 case.
This announcement, made Wednesday, is in response to the recent surge in new COVID-19 coronavirus cases in Monroe County. As it pertains to COVID-19, quarantine is meant to keep someone who might have been exposed to the virus away from others.
Over the past few weeks, the Monroe County Health Department (MCHD) has experienced an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases being reported, similar to the rest of Michigan, the notice said. Due to this increasing rate and the introduction of COVID-19 variants across the State, the MCHD is following the guidance of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) on reinstituting a standard 14-day quarantine for close contacts of COVID-19 cases. ....

Pedestrian struck, killed by semitruck at Love's Truck Stop


The victim, Glen Hazen Roth, 64, of Flint, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened about 6:17 a.m. in the rear truck parking lot at the Love s Truck Stop, 1609 Nadeau Road, near I-75. 
Upon arrival, deputies learned that Roth had been walking through the parking lot when he was struck by a 2017 Freightliner operated by a man from Ontario, Canada. 
Neither alcohol nor intoxicating substances appear to be a factor in the crash, the report said.
Monroe Community Ambulance and Frenchtown Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Deputies Burkhart, Preadmore, and Galloro of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division, and Deputies Riffle and Harvey of the Uniform Services Division. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call (734) 240-7560. ....

'State of Emergency' declared for Monroe County's COVID-19 situation


State of Emergency declared for Monroe County s COVID-19 situation
Monroe County officials have taken the unusual step of declaring a Local State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This declaration pertains to public meetings; and is one of several steps that local authorities have taken in recent days to respond to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The order was signed by Mark Brant, chairman of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners; and issued Wednesday by Monroe County Emergency Management division.
Mark A. Hammond, director of the county’s Emergency Management Division, said the declaration was issued to allow all government bodies in the county to continue meeting virtually if they want. Councils and boards also have the option of meeting in person, but must adhere to the limit of 25 people due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by federal and state authorities.  ....
