Mayor Ravi Bhalla signed an Executive Order officially launching the Vision Zero safety campaign in August of 2019.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced substantial improvements in three of Hoboken’s Vision Zero safety categories.
From 2019 to 2020, Hoboken saw a 35 percent decrease in pedestrians struck by vehicles, an 11 percent decrease in cyclists struck by vehicles, and a 27 percent decrease in vehicle-on-vehicle crashes, according to an analysis of crash reports by members of the traffic division of the Hoboken Police Department.
Thirty-five pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in 2020 compared to 54 in 2019, 31 cyclists were struck by a vehicle in 2020 compared to 35 in 2019, and 1,027 vehicles were struck by another vehicle in 2020 compared to 1,410 in 2019. ....

Lancaster city officials want public input to make South Duke Street safer

Lancaster city officials want input as they seek ways to make South Duke Street safer and easier to navigate as part of an effort to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.
The city plans to spend $2.1 million for streetscape improvements on a half-mile stretch of South Duke Street from Church Street to Chesapeake Street. Suggestions from residents and others who use the area will be considered during the development in March of a concept plan, which will be unveiled by early June. To provide input, citizens should register for Engage Lancaster at engage.cityoflancasterpa.com.
The cityâs South Duke Street Mobility Project is part of the Vision Zero Action Plan, an international effort the city joined last year that has a goal of eliminating all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. The cityâs work along South Duke Street will be paid for using $1.47 million in state transportation grants and $630,000 from city bond funds. ....

The Met is reminding motorists who illegally use a mobile device while at the wheel to âleave the phone alone!â as they crack down on offenders â more than 180 people have been fined since Monday, 8 February.
Between Monday, 8 and Sunday, 21 February, the Metâs Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), in partnership with Transport for London, is focusing activity on targeting motorists who unlawfully use hand-held mobile devices while driving, and in doing so, pose a very real danger to themselves, other drivers and pedestrians.
Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens, from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: âThe majority of people are responsible motorists who obey the rules of the road and, like me, are opposed to mobile phone use by other drivers. ....

Now more than ever we could use some extra cash. Assistance with filing your taxes is available and there are many different ways to get them prepared.
The AARP Foundation s Tax-Aide program prepares tax returns, including electronic filing, at no cost to taxpayers. There is no income limit, and though the focus is low-to-moderate income households headed by someone 50 years and older, there is no age limit (if you re under 50, you re still welcome to use Tax-Aide services.) AARP membership is not required.
The Tax-Aide program offers three options for free tax preparation.
By email: On February 1, the Tax-Aide program began accepting requests for tax preparation services by email. Visit their website at www.aarpca2.org/sonoma-napa for specific details regarding the email preparation process.
