The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $24,145 in funding during its meeting on Feb. 23.
Catholic Charities was awarded $7,500 in capital funding to purchase Thermoscans and docking stations to conduct temperature screenings at their offices.
 
Community Alternatives United (CAU) was awarded $12,000 in capital funds to purchase laptops to provide virtual services. CAU works with township residents with developmental or cognitive disabilities.
The Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault (NWCASA) received $1,970 in contract support funds for technological upgrades to allow for staff to work remotely. NWCASA supports residents who are victims of sexual assault. ....

Meet the four locals who are among the nation's first 1,000 female Eagle Scouts


When she was 8, Annastasia Wischki, now 14, was on a trip with her older brother’s Boy Scout troop. The boys were tasked with building a fire using only one match. Wischki teamed up with one of the other Scouts’ sisters to join in.
All the boys failed. Wischki and the other girl were the only ones who succeeded. Immediately, “I had the spark for it,” she said.
It would be a few more years before girls would start being allowed into Boy Scouts of America, now Scouts BSA, in February 2019, months after young girls could become Cub Scouts.
Once that barrier was removed, four local girls — siblings Caroline and Annie Scheidt, Jaisyn Daher, and Wischki — made quick work of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, having gotten there in just two years. ....

U-46's 'Accent on Achievement' to honor students named All-State Musicians

Twelve high school students will be recognized by the Elgin Area School District U-46 board Monday with an Accent on Achievement for their outstanding achievements as musicians, including a student whose original musical composition was honored at the state level.
Students participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) competitive audition process to be named All-State Musicians, the highest musical achievement for high schoolers in Illinois.
 
These students are all-star musicians and their participation in this prestigious event reflects their dedication and skills as well as the support of their families and U-46 music educators, said Superintendent Tony Sanders. Parents, teachers and these students have showcased their resilience and innovation as they pivoted to producing and supporting virtual performances and employing new technology in the process. ....

Bartlett Library to Resume Normal Operating Hours

On Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, the Bartlett Public Library District board of trustees voted in favor of lifting the temporary hours and resuming normal operating hours starting on March 1, 2021.
Should circumstances change, the board can evaluate the schedule during a regular board meeting or they can call for a special board meeting.
 
Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday: 12 to 5 p.m.
Additionally, the following services will be changed due to the region moving back into Tier 4 mitigations:
-Building capacity increases to 50%
-The 15-minute time limit to remain in the building will be lifted ....
