(Photo: iStock) April 30, 2021 Casual dining brand Smokey Bones this week opened a 200-square-foot ghost kitchen in Columbus, Ohio that will serve as the production hub for that brand and sister concepts, The Burger Experience and The Wing Experience, a news release said. The ghost kitchen is the second for the casual dining brand itself and features a limited menu of Smokey Bones barbecue specialties. Items of sister virtual brands, The Wing Experience and The Burger Experience, will also originate at the new virtual operation in Ohio s capital city. The actual kitchen is located on Essex Avenue and orders can be made through each brand s website or through Uber Eats and DoorDash. ....

After testing its newly created chicken brand NBL CKN at a local festival in 2019, the 85-unit casual dining chain decided to launch the concept as a ghost kitchen operating at select BW&R locations. The Adventura, Fla.-based chain had begun experimenting with the virtual brand model back in 2019, long before it became a popular pandemic pivot for restaurant chains to launch new brands that are available for delivery only as an additional revenue stream.
