An embattled county court-at-law judge accused of hurting his son has removed himself from hearing criminal cases in Guadalupe County.
On Monday, Judge William G. Squires III sent a memorandum to Guadalupe County Clerk Teresa Kiel asking her office to refrain from assigning criminal cases in his court. Squires also requested Kiel reassign any existing cases in his court and assign future criminal cases to County Court At Law No. 2, for Judge Kirsten Legore to hear.
âI am voluntarily recusing from all criminal cases filed in the County Court at Law temporarily,â Squires wrote. âJudge Legore has agreed to temporarily hear all criminal cases.â

A Killeen man arrested during a Bell County sex trafficking sting two years ago recently saw his criminal charge dismissed by a judge.
Raymond C. Steele, who was arrested during a three-day sting in Killeen in May 2019, had his misdemeanor charge for promotion of prostitution dismissed last month by a Bell County judge.
A motion to dismiss the charge cited âinsufficient evidence to obtain a conviction of the offense herein.â The motion was filed by Assistant County Attorney Kallee E. Congdon and was signed May 17 by Court at Law No. 2 Judge John Mischtian.
âIâm glad itâs been dropped,â Steele, 51, said Wednesday. âThat made me look bad to people who know me. Anybody who knows me knows I protect women.â
