Caddo Parish District judge issues update in Shreveport water lawsuit

Attorneys Jerald R. Harper and Anne E. Wilkes, with Harper Law Firm Shreveport, legal counsel on behalf of over 100,000 Shreveport households overcharged for water and sewer services over the past decade,  announced new developments in that litigation on Monday. 
Caddo Parish District Court Judge Michael A. Pitman  added legal interest to the amounts already ruled owed by the City of Shreveport, raising the amount of the judgment from approximately $9.6 million to approximately $11.3 million for water and sewer overcharges, a news release from the class action attorney’s office states.

Former Austin company CFO's ex-husband headed to federal prison and ordered to pay over $20m in restitution for embezzlement scheme


A federal judge sentenced Lakeway resident Robert Scott Villarreal to 87 months of imprisonment for a scheme to embezzle millions of dollars from a company headquartered in Austin where his ex-wife served as Chief Financial Officer.
During sentencing yesterday in Austin, U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman also ordered the defendant to pay $15,941,452.87 in restitution to Richardson Enterprises, Ltd. (Richardson), which owns and operates automobile dealerships in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, and $4,243,649 in restitution to the IRS. The defendant and his ex-wife used the embezzled funds to support a lavish lifestyle.
According to court records, an investigation conducted by the IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS CI) and FBI revealed that in 2009, Tamra Maurine Villarreal (aka Tamra Creighton Villarreal) and Scott Villarreal began stealing money from the company and using it for their personal benefit even though Tamra was paid an annual salary in excess of $400,000. Hirsch v. USHealth Advisors, LLC, Judge Pittman, of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, denied Aaron Hirsch’s (“Plaintiff”) Motion for Class Certification, which was based on allegations that USHealth Advisors, LLC (“USHA”) and USHealth Group, Inc. (“USGA”) (collectively “Defendants”) violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Maryland equivalent of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. In doing so, the Court put a dent in claims where professional plaintiffs seek to profit off the TCPA.
