Political tactics on road safety fail to satisfy angry mum

A Palmwoods mother who kickstarted a campaign for safer roads in her community says she s fed up with political tactics at play .
Jocelyn Anderson started a petition as a last-ditch effort to improve safety in what she says is a life or death situation in the small hinterland town.
So far, Ms Anderson s petition has amassed 1198 signatures.
The community s concerns over the road safety in the increasingly busy area prompted the Sunshine Coast Daily launch the Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign to fight for urgent safety upgrades.

New Sunshine Coast park for junior adventurers

Australia’s largest high wire park, built specifically for junior adventurers, has opened on the Sunshine Coast.
Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said the Palaszczuk Government had backed TreeTop Challenge Junior Adventure Park with $500,000 from the Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund.
“TreeTop Challenge Junior Adventure Park is a great addition to the Sunshine Coast’s growing line up visitor attractions,” Mr Skelton said.
“The Sunshine Coast has always been a family-friendly destination with a relaxed holiday lifestyle and outdoor experiences that everybody can enjoy.
“With more than 50 adventures to keep pint-sized explorers and their families engaged and entertained, they will want to return again and again. ....

Government investigates solutions to Palmwoods traffic woes

The State Government has begun to investigate short-term solutions to solve Palmwoods traffic woes.
Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton met with Department of Transport and Main Roads north coast regional director Scott Whitaker and several of his staff on Wednesday to discuss potential solutions to the longstanding issues plaguing the growing area.
It comes after the Sunshine Coast Daily launched the Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign to fight for safety upgrades in the Hinterland town.
Business and residents have voiced their concerns saying speed through the town, the lack of pedestrian crossings and several prominent intersections were the problems. ....

The weather bureau has predicted showers and a possible thunderstorm for the Coast today. Between 10 to 30mm of rain is expected and the wet weather is expected to stick around this weekend. Maleny will reach a top of 20C while a majority of the region reaches 23-24C.
Low tide at Mooloolaba was at 4.39am at 0.44m and high tide will be at 10.15am at 1.46m. The next low tide is scheduled for 4.12pm at 0.29m and high tide will reach 2.02m at 11.03pm.

Reduce speed to solve Palmwoods' traffic woes: expert

Reducing the speed around a notorious Palmwoods intersection was the best solution to improve road safety in the growing hinterland town, an expert has said.
University of Sunshine Coast research associate Levi Anderson said safer signage and reducing speed - not speed bumps - around the rail bridge intersection could solve the town s traffic woes.
(With) speed bumps, while they will slow down drivers momentarily, if drivers are in a hurry they re going to increase their speed immediately afterwards, he said.
(This) makes larger infrastructure investments like traffic lights with passenger crossing or a zebra crossing going to be more productive. ....
