Millions splashed on roadworks in hinterland town

More than $8m has been spent by the Sunshine Coast Council and the State Government in the past decade to maintain and upgrade Palmwoods roads.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has invested more than $4m over the past ten years in and around the area.
The council has spent more than $4.3m in just five years.
Business and residents have voiced their concerns over the past month with a petition launched calling for several prominent intersections to be upgraded as well as the speed limit lowered throughout the main street.

60 drivers in 3 hours: Motorists flout rules at intersection

The survey results highlight just how horrendous road conditions are in the popular Hinterland town.
The Daily observed the traffic at the notorious railway bridge intersections from 12.30pm to 3.30pm on May 6 as part of the Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign.
It witnessed several near misses as well as drivers failing to stop at street signs, taking right of way and speeding down a dangerous intersection.

'Hitting my head against brick wall': Former Nicklin MP

A former MP says trying to get the State Government to deal with Palmwoods traffic nightmare was like hitting his head against a brick wall .
Ex-Nicklin MP Marty Hunt said community concern regarding the Chevallum Road, Jubilee Drive and Woombye Palmwoods Road intersection was constant during his almost three year tenure.
Mr Hunt served as the member for just one term before losing by the slimmest of margins in last year s state election.
It comes after the Sunshine Coast Daily launched the Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign to fight for safety upgrades in the Hinterland town.

'I begged Annastacia': Former councillor voices frustration

A former councillor has revealed how she begged Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to improve a notorious intersection in Palmwoods almost 10 years ago.
Jenny McKay who was a Sunshine Coast councillor for more than 20 years said meetings with Ms Palaszczuk when she was the transport minister from 2011 to 2012 had made no difference.
I even begged when it was Annastacia Palaszczuk, she said.
I met with her and we discussed whether there was an opportunity for an upgrade. But it was derailed.
The comments came after the Sunshine Coast Daily launched the Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign in bid to improve road safety in the growing Hinterland community. ....
