Buddy the Therapy K9 Makes First Public Appearance

The City Council approved a proclamation declaring the month of April 2021 Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Dog handler and Juvenile Detective Martha Holzgrafe handles child abuse cases for the City of Green River. Buddy, a therapy dog, will be used when Holzgrafe is interviewing juveniles. The dog helps keep juveniles calm.

The Wyoming Children’s Trust Fund sent the City several blue and silver stick fans, which were placed all around the council chambers.

Maria Sykes worries that the world is becoming âa bit homogeneous.â
It seems that as places grow together, they also grow more similar. So in Green River, her home since 2009, she co-founded an organization dedicated to preserving the uniqueness of the southeastern Utah oasis: Epicenter.
âEvery city in the world can improve,â says Sykes, who serves as Epicenterâs executive director. âI donât think that Green River is exceptional in that it can benefit from architecture design and care.â
Before settling in Green River, Sykes earned her degree from Auburn Universityâs School of Architecture and worked in Atlanta, Ga. Then the 2008 recession hit, and she found herself in Green River working on what would become the townâs community center. A summer visit to the town then suddenly turned into 12 years. ....

Schmidt Futures awards another quarter million dollars to help diversify the economy in Carbon and Emery counties
Newswise March 2, 2021 (Salt Lake City) – The Utah Coal Country Strike Team will invest another $251,185 in nine projects that support small businesses, affordable housing, tourism infrastructure, and student scholarships in Carbon and Emery Counties, awarded by Schmidt Futures. This new investment, which is levered with an over four-to-one match, will help diversify the economy in Utah’s coal country and help residents achieve a more economically stable future. Today’s announcement brings the total amount invested by the locally led Strike Team to $1.3 million, all at a time when the Strike Team has met their goal to secure a 10% increase in incomes for residents of the region. ....

Muley Fanatics Donates Deer Crossing Signs to Green River

GREEN RIVER The Muley Fanatic Foundation donated four Tapco brand solar powered LED flashing deer crossing signs to the City of Green River today to raise awareness for motorist safety.
The signs will servce notice in specific areas around town of possible deer crossing presence on the roadway.
These 30”x30” signs are solar powered with LED lighting around the perimeter of the sign, with the lights continually flashing and providing for a highly visible reminder of possible deer crossing.

MFF worked with the City of Green River and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to identify priority areas within the city limits for optimum placement in areas of high wildlife traffic collision reports. ....

The Green River Fire Department had a very busy year in 2020, not only with a record number of recorded incidents, but also with several outside elements that occurred. Assistant Fire Chief Larry Erdmann said, “these tasks were accomplished by the hard work, and dedication of the two full time administrative staff, the 38 part-time volunteer staff including firefighters, lieutenants, and captains.”
Erdmann says the Green River Fire Department responded to a record 663 incidents, including 43 calls in a 24 hour period following the huge wind and snow storm in early September.
