See page 9 in the Reporter for more state wrestling photos. by Joseph Schany Emmetsburg’s Matt Wirtz and West Bend-Mallard’s Donavon Hanson would each earn medals in their respective weight classes at the 2021 State Wrestling Championship in Des Moines last Thursday through Saturday. Wirtz, a junior at Emmetsburg High School, placed fifth at 195 pounds in Class 2A while Hanson, a senior at West Bend-Mallard, earned a fourth place overall finish in Class 1A, 113 pounds. ....

Though Moore would escape Wirtz’s grasp seconds later, points earned would ultimately give Wirtz the 10-5 advantage and win. Wirtz now heads to Des Moines for state wrestling to be held Feb. 18-20 at Wells Fargo Arena.
