Foreword by the Director-General
The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 makes discrimination in relation to a disability, unlawful. Legislation protects employees, prospective employees, volunteers, work experience students, contract workers and clients. It recognises that people with a disability have the same fundamental rights and should have the same opportunities as other people to participate in the workplace and in community life.

1. Name of Committee
2. Purpose
2.1 The Council of the National Library of Australia has established an Audit Committee as required by section 45 of the
Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and PGPA Rule section 17 - Audit Committee for Commonwealth entities.
2.2 The Committee is a sub-committee of the Council of the National Library of Australia established to assist the Council discharge its responsibilities under the
National Library Act 1960 and the
PGPA Act in respect of financial reporting, performance reporting, risk oversight and management, internal control and compliance with relevant laws and policies.
2.3 The Committee is not responsible for the executive management of these functions. The Committee will engage with management in a constructive and professional manner in discharging its responsibilities and formulating its advice to the Council. ....

Policy statement
The National Library of Australia is the country s largest reference library. Our role is to ensure that documentary resources of national significance relating to Australia and the Australian people, as well as significant non-Australian library materials, are collected, preserved and made accessible either through the Library itself or through collaborative arrangements with other libraries and information providers.
The Library’s exhibiting role is mandated by the National Library Act 1960 Section 6 which requires the Library:

to make library material in the national collection available to such persons and institutions, and in such manner and subject to such conditions, as the Council determines with a view to the most advantageous use of that collection in the national interest; ....

Introduction
On behalf of the Council of the National Library of Australia (the accountable authority), we present the National Library’s 2020–21 Corporate Plan, as required under paragraph 35(1)(b) of the
Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013. The plan is prepared in accordance with the
Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014.
The Corporate Plan is the principal planning document that outlines the Library’s purpose, priorities and proposed actions. We report against the plan in the National Library of Australia Annual Report, tabled in parliament each year by the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts. ....
