This Black History Month, I attended a Feb. 7 Massachusetts-wide virtual event marking National Gun Violence Survivors Week. This event was produced by the Massachusetts chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
A year ago, the Western Massachusetts group of Moms Demand met Juanita Batchelor at a peace march in Springfield. Juanita’s son Darrell Jenkins was killed by a gun wielding shooter on June 4, 2014. The homicide remains unsolved.
Juanita has founded MORE (Mothers Overlooking, Reaching Out, Empowerment) an organization seeking justice for the numerous unsolved homicides in Springfield and providing services to survivor families. All these families are African American. ....

KALAMAZOO, MI “Fear is real,” said domestic violence survivor Mollie Peterson. “And it’s very easy for someone to say snap out of it, go to the Y and get some help.
“But first of all you have to get your mindset off the fear and then you can focus on whatever else you need to do to save yourself and your children. The tape that’s going on in your mind is that ‘I might not be alive tomorrow.’ That’s really a hard pill to swallow. And no one can really solve that problem.” ....

SAF’s “wildly successful’ 2nd Amendment First Responder campaign is continuing for a fifth straight week due to positive reaction.
U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- For the fifth straight week, the Second Amendment Foundation is sponsoring a “wildly successful” television advertising campaign on more than a dozen networks, encouraging viewers to sign onto the “2
nd Amendment First Responder” project in which the growing gun rights organization says it is “providing intellectual ammunition” to win the gun right debate.
According to SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, “Right now, we’re the only gun rights organization in the nation running a national TV advertising campaign defending gun rights, and continued positive public response makes this possible.” ....

LTE: National Gun Violence Survivors Week ends, the pain doesn't

By Jonathan Nadav
Last week was National Gun Violence Survivors Week. In 2017, my family was the victim of a home invasion gunpoint robbery in Newtown. My oldest was still at home. I would learn later that she had been zip-tied and was being held at gunpoint in her bedroom.
We were tormented that night, zip-tied, assaulted, threatened   but we survived. What no one really talks about is how hard the aftermath of gun violence is.
I remember former Deputy District Attorney Antonetta Stancu telling the jury at the trial of these monsters that our family survived a real-life nightmare. She talked about the fact that we were not just robbed of heirlooms, important documents and our savings, we were robbed of the invaluable feeling of safety and that could never be replaced.   ....
