The Portland City Council voted unanimously Thursday to enact Mayor Ted Wheeler’s $5.7 billion budget, which includes $269,000 to help food cart vendors that were displaced by the Ritz-Carlton hotel in 2019 relocate to Ankeny Square in the North Park Blocks. ....

About 70 residents spoke during the three-hour virtual hearing Wednesday night, marking one of the few opportunities for the public to weigh in on Mayor Ted Wheeler’s proposed $5.7 billion spending plan for next year. Shalom Y’all’s location on Southwest Alder Street near 12th Avenue is scheduled to go on hiatus Monday, May 10, for a bit of a refresh. When it welcomes back customers in early June, the shop will be rebranded “Lil’ Shalom” and feature more grab-and-go items rather than a full-service menu. ....

The nearly ritualized affair began after 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, as no more than 150 black-clad protesters gathered at Shemanski Park on Southwest Park Avenue. Spontaneous chants of f - press broke out as members of the group confronted several independent journalists. If you support anarchy you d put your camera down and have a hell of a lot more fun, one hoarse voice in the crowd yelled. There s like 12 anarchists and a f - ton of press. ....
Apr 8, 2021 Portland Police responded to a report of a man armed with a gun and found he was armed with a replica gun. Wednesday afternoon, Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the area of Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Alder Street regarding a suspicious person with a gun. A security officer taking a break from work encountered a man walking in a parking garage who said he was looking for his probation officer and then displayed a gun in his waistband to the security officer. The security officer was concerned by this display and called police to provide a description of the man and his behavior. ....
