Fox21Online July 25, 2021 DULUTH, Minn. – Duluth’s police union is calling the struggle to hire qualified officers a “crisis” for the police department and the city. In a post on Local 807’s Facebook page, the union said they recently were not able to fill all open police officer positions because there weren’t enough qualified candidates interested in working for the Duluth Police Department. The police department’s spokesperson could not confirm Sunday how many applicants applied for open jobs and how many jobs are currently unfilled. The union says it’s a “crisis” because of an increased amount of retirements and decreased interest in policing as a career. ....

Duluth men charged in Lincoln Park home invasion, gunfire incident At the time of their arrests Friday night, Quentin Ray Cooke and Joseph Michael Lamerand were both under community supervision following earlier acts of gun violence. 3:35 pm, Feb. 9, 2021 × Two Duluth men who have a history of gun violence are now facing a slew of felony charges after shots were fired during a Lincoln Park home invasion Friday night. Authorities said Quentin Ray Cooke, 25, fired two shots into the apartment on the 2400 block of West Third Street after unsuccessfully attempting to confront a man who owed him money. The incident, which did not result in any physical injuries, came almost immediately after he was released from jail while facing an alleged probation violation stemming from another gunfire incident last fall. ....
