Manheim Central board reviews commencement plans, proposes budget with 3% tax hike


When: Manheim Central school board meeting, May 17.
What happened: High school Principal Joshua Weitzel presented plans for the June 4 commencement ceremony, a two-part celebration.
First part: An outdoor luncheon for the graduating class will take place during the day on Friday, June 4.
Second part: The commencement ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at Elden Rettew Stadium. High School Principal Joshua Weitzel will present scholarships and recognize the valedictorian and salutatorian, while Superintendent Peter Aiken will offer congratulatory remarks. Student speakers will be class president Troy Peters and Andrew Rajaratnam. Music will be performed by Timothy Bartsch, Sarah Rhodes, David Graff, Justin Greenly, Bailey Garman and Matthew Siegrist. Manheim Central alumus, Seth Obetz, will address the graduating class. The program will conclude with the induction of the Class of 2021 into the Alumni Association by board member Michael Clair. ....

British furniture brand to open new Flatiron store


Timothy Oulton, the innovative British furniture brand known
for its subversive take on luxury, has signed a lease for a 7,170 s/f retail
space at 901 Broadway at 20th Street, in the Flatiron District.
The new location will serve as the brand’s East Coast
flagship location and the largest and most important retail presence in the
region. McAlpine Contracting will build the new showroom.
Timothy Oulton has an international presence, with 45 retail
galleries worldwide. In addition to the newly leased location, the brand
currently operates seven stores in the United States, including at the New York
Design Center at 200 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, as well as in Connecticut, Miami, ....

He is particularly impressed that the Santa Barbara Zoo has become the first West Coast zoo to earn the designation of Certified Autism Center, ensuring all zoo visitors have a successful experience. 
Dr. Segna retired in 2017 from a career as a practicing veterinarian, association executive, and community college educator. Before retiring, he was the assistant executive director of the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMS), an 8,000-member professional organization.
Dr. Segna was a leader of the CVMA legislative team, oversaw membership services, the regulatory and compliance department, student programs, and the association websites. He worked with state legislators and regulatory agencies, representing the interest of the veterinary profession. ....

THE first official tender process to make it possible for black-owned businesses to fully manage Table Mountain will only take place in 2025, at the end of a 99-year contract with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC).
TMACC has for many years been operated by members of the Oppenheimer, Graaff and De Waal families.
This was revealed earlier this week when the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) opened up on the matter after a three-month challenge to get them to speak about the management of the world heritage site. ....
