TROY, N.Y. â Longtime Unity House Chief Executive Officer Chris Burke has announced that he will retire from the role in mid-2022. Only the second CEO in the organizationâs 50-year history, he has led the organization for more than 30 years.
âUnity House is in a very strong position today, with a dynamic and extremely talented leadership team in place, and I feel itâs time for me to prepare to step down next year,â Burke said. âAnnouncing my intent now will give the board plenty of time to undertake the process of finding Unity Houseâs third CEO.â

TROY, N.Y. â The City of Troy will add six new community police officers. At Thursday evening s Troy City Council meeting, the measure passed in a bipartisan fashion, 5-2. The proposal placing two new officers in each zone also had the support of Troy Mayor Patrick Madden.
The passage followed much contentious and deliberate discussion on the issue. Listening to folks [Thursday night], you would get a picture that there s not a lot going on in the city and what we re doing tonight is just hiring more police officers. That s not the goal here, Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello said.

Troy police said Tuesday there is not sufficient information to file criminal charges against two Rensselaer police officers in the death of a woodchuck on a golf course this summer.
And while those officers remain on paid administrative suspension, the case has been referred to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. After thoroughly reviewing all available information regarding the case and in consultation with the Rensselaer County District Attorney s Office, it has been determined that the case did not yield sufficient information to warrant charges, according to a statement issued by Troy Police Capt. TROY â Organizers of the Troy Turkey Trot, one of the nationâs oldest and largest Turkey Trots, recently said that 2,632 participants from 36 states, two Canadian provinces and the nation of Turkey participated in the eventâs 73rd virtual edition, which was held Nov. 26 through Nov. 28.
The largest swath of participants took part in the eventâs 5K (1,791), while 569 Trotted in the 10K, 170 strolled in the Turkey Mile Walk and 102 children in the eighth grade and below competed in the Grade School Mile.
