NEW ORLEANS – Outstanding Performers of the Meet from the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). JP Vaught of Centre and Matthew Wilkinson of Carleton shared the honor of Most Outstanding Men’s Track Performer, while Marcus Weaver of UW-Eau Claire was named the Most Outstanding Men’s Field Performer. Emily Pomainville of SUNY Geneseo was named Most Outstanding Women’s Track Performer, while Isabel Maletich of Chicago and Sydney Thompson of UW-Oshkosh shared Most Outstanding Women’s Field Performer honors. Each year, the USTFCCCA honors the Outstanding Performers of the Meet at the NCAA DIII Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Barton Produces Elite 1,500m Performance Thursday in Jacksonville JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Laurie Barton became the second-fastest woman in Clemson history for 1,500 meters Thursday evening after crossing the line in 4:14.20 during the first day of competition at the UNF Invitational. The all-time performance from Barton was her fourth top 2 mark at Clemson in 2021, as the middle-distance star currently holds the school record in the women’s 800m and 1,000m and is second in the record books for the outdoor 800m and 1,500m. “As I’ve said [before], she [Laurie] is an exceptional student-athlete,” said Mark Elliott, Clemson’s Director of Track & Field. “It’s very rare that you can have someone in the top 2 in so many events… it’s just amazing and fun to watch. CLEMSON, S.C. Five members of the Clemson track and field program are set to travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the UNF Invitational which will take place from April 29-30. The competition on the Visit Jax Track in Hodges Stadium will allow Clemson to preview this year’s venue for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds that are scheduled to be contested from May 27-29. Laurie Barton will represent the Tigers during Thursday’s session, as the Clemson native is set to compete in the opening heat of the women’s 1,500 meters at 8:10 p.m. Barton enters the weekend as the fourth-fastest athlete in Clemson history for the event after running 4:18.56 during the FSU Relays on March 26. Last time out, Barton became No. 2 all-time at Clemson in the women’s 800m by running 2:01.57 during the UCF Knights Invite, a mark which served as the second-fastest of her career.
