The Clemson track and field program concluded its competition at the NCAA East Region Prelims on Saturday by having five individuals and one relay qualify for the upcoming the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The four-day meet in Jacksonville has seen Clemson advance 11 athletes across 10 individual events, along with 3 relay teams.  “It has been a great four days, and I’m very proud of the way all the kids competed,” said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Elliott following the conclusion of the NCAA East Region Prelims. “The day [Saturday] didn’t end how we wanted it to [with the 4x400m relay], but that’s the way that championships are.” Veronica Fraley got the day’s action started by contesting the discus throw, and following three rounds of competition, the native of Raleigh, N.C., secured another ticket to Eugene after finishing ninth overall with her toss of 54.95 meters (180 feet, 3 inches). RALEIGH, N.C.  The Clemson track and field program concluded competition at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening after seeing its women’s team score 69 points to finish in a tie for fifth, and its men’s team score 65 points to finish in sixth. Saturday’s action saw Clemson capture two ACC titles at 800 meters, garner seven first-team All-ACC honors, and collect 12 second-team All-ACC accolades.
Kameron Jones became the best men’s 800m runner in Clemson history after setting a new school record of 1:45.47 en route to winning the event’s final on Saturday. In addition to the new school record, Jones also set a meet record and facility record while becoming the fastest collegiate athlete at the distance this season. The previous meet record stood at 1:46.66 and was held by Virginia’s Paul Ereng following his performance at the 1988 conference championships. Fraley Earns First-Team All-ACC, Four Tigers Record Top 10 All-Time Marks


RALEIGH, N.C.  Areya Campbell (heptathlon), Harleigh White (triple jump), Veronica Fraley (shot put), and Leah Disher (800 meters) each registered top 10 all-time marks at Clemson during the second day of competition at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The final day of competition will begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. as Roje Stona contests the men’s discus.
Veronica Fraley placed third in the women’s shot put competition after throwing 16.46 meters (54 feet, 0 inches) during the second round. Fraley’s performance improved her mark as the program’s No. 2 all-time performer. The third-place finish gave the Raleigh native the first first-team All-ACC honor of her career. ....

Seventy-Three Student-Athletes Set to Graduate This Week
CLEMSON, S.C. – Seventy-three student-athletes and 34 students in support roles and spirit squads are set to earn degrees from Clemson University during commencement ceremonies this week. The ceremonies are taking place from May 5-8 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C. The Athletic Department presented the graduating class with its traditional orange stoles in a ceremony in Littlejohn Coliseum on May 4.
Thirteen athletic programs are represented among the graduates, including Skip Prosser Award Winner Aamir Simms, a two-time All-ACC selection in basketball. The group also includes 11 from the football program, all of whom have won at least four ACC Championships and the 2018 National Championship. Will Swinney (marketing), the son of Head Coach Dabo Swinney, is among the graduates. The program expected to enter the 2021 fall with 18 graduates on its roster. ....

ATHENS, Ga. The Clemson track and field program collected six top 5 finishes on Friday evening during the first day of competition at the University of Georgia’s Torrin Lawrence Memorial. The Tigers had 12 athletes compete across five events in Athens, with five earning personal bests and three earning season bests following their efforts on the Spec Towns Track.
Antoinette van der Merwe secured her first collegiate victory this evening by winning the women’s 200m with a wind-legal time of 23.53 seconds. The mark for van der Merwe eclipsed her previous best by .43 seconds and came during her outdoor collegiate debut in the event. Serena Clark (23.99) and Courtney Williams (24.10) ran personal bests in Athens, with Clark’s time proving to be good enough for third overall. Marcus Parker finished second in the men’s 200m after running 20.79 with a legal wind of 1.60 meters-per-second. ....
