When Mark Bryant, a 17-year-old senior at the Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School, heard about the Take Stock in Children’s program he knew very little about it, nor the organization that started the program The Education Foundation of Alachua County. All he knew was that he had friends in the program whose mentors met them for special lunches. “I started hanging out with my friends and their mentors and eventually I got an interview for it,” Mark said. Mark is one of the 59 students from Alachua County who will receive a Florida two-year, prepaid college scholarship to any college or technical program, through the Take Stock in Children program. And he’s one of the 58 students to earn a scholarship through the Education Foundation’s senior scholarship program. ....

The city s public works committee shot down that option last week, which would have meant the years-long debate wouldn t be allowed to come back again until after the next municipal election. New Balance wins massive trademark case against Chinese brand New Barlun Details 10 February 2021 Yes, there s a Chinese sportswear brand called New Barlun. Yes, it would be easy to confuse their logo and product design with the American sportswear brand New Balance. And yes, a court in China felt the same way, awarding a landmark trademark victory to New Balance in the sum of about US$3.85 million (RMB 25 million) in damages. The Shanghai Huangpu District Court ruled that defendants New Barlun (China) Co and Shanghai Shiyi Trade Co violated New Balance s trademark rights, as their shoes marked with a similar N logo were both visually and conceptually similar to the American brand. Additionally, the defendants had been acting in bad faith by not following a previous interim injunction to cease production, all while benefitting from the similarity and New Balance s reputation abroad. ....
